The best beer halls in Prague

Some claim that Pilsener is the best Czech invention ever! Prague is not only home to many bars in historic cellars and buildings, but also to large beer halls and modern cafés. In local pubs, the traditionally brewed beer is typically cheaper than water.

Double Trouble

This large cellar bar/club is located between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square. Although the name suggests otherwise, Double Trouble is Prague’s most popular Gothic cellar pub. The building has been carefully restored. The bar draws a very diverse crowd, ranging from locals and stag/hen parties to passers-by and business people who drop in for a beer. This is the place to be in Prague for an unforgettable night out.

U Vejvodu

U Vejvodu

Fresh beer at U Vejvodu

The 4 walls of U Vejvodu house a historic bar, a beer hall and a restaurant. Hearty Czech pub food provides a solid base for an evening of drinking. U Vejvodu is one of the few bars in town that serves ‘tank beer’, fresh and foamy beer from the Urquell brewery delivered by tanker truck. People from all walks of life come here to have fun. Live accordion music adds to the charm.

U Sedmi Svabu

This Medieval tavern takes great pride in its outstanding hospitality. U Sedmi Svabu welcomes guests with a crackling fire in the fireplace. Suits of armour and other cast iron artefacts decorate the walls; waitresses lug huge trays full of cold beer and savoury food. Ordering a bite is a must; without a dinner reservation you won’t get a seat when it’s busy, and without a seat you can’t order beer. Czech law dictates that one may not drink unless seated.

U Fleku

The 8 beer halls of U Fleku

U Fleku is a special treat. Choose from 8 different beer halls; there is also a micro-brewery on the premises. Guests are seated at long wooden communal tables and accordion players make the rounds to provide entertainment. On nice days there is also an outdoor beer garden, styled after the German beer gardens. U Fleku is a special and undoubtedly very fun experience.

U Medvidku

U Medvidku is a traditional Czech beer hall. Beer has been brewed here since 1466 and the beer hall was added 500 years later. Guests sit at simple tables, there are various tap installations and enough room to accommodate several hundred people. Those looking for a charming pub may wish to skip this place, but if you are in the market for plenty of inexpensive beer then this is just the right place for you.
