Barcelona’s best beaches

There is nothing better than a refreshing dip in the sea after a long day of sightseeing in Barcelona. Since the 1992 Olympic Games, Barcelona has invested significantly in cleaning up the sand and water; the results can be enjoyed every summer.

From Bogatell to Barceloneta

Bogatell is one of Barcelona’s most popular beaches. It parallels a long stone boulevard where people jog, skate and bike. Thanks to the raised promenade one can barely hear the city traffic. Beach bars on Bogatell play trendy music and exude a laidback vibe. Barcelona’s longest beach features hip beach bars that serve delicious food and (local) drinks. La Barceloneta is one of the busiest – and most happening – of Barcelona's beaches. The beach offers many facilities, including 3 beach volley courts, a ping pong table and playground equipment for children.

El Puerto Olímpico

Dinner at the beach

Nova Icària Beach is the closest beach to the Olympic harbour. The excellent (beach) bars and popular restaurants along the seaside promenade make this a popular dinner destination after a day of sunbathing. Nova Icària Beach is extremely popular with families with children and groups of friends. The nightlife district of El Puerto Olímpico is right next to the beach and easily accessible. San Sebastiá – nestled between the Vela Hotel and the neighbourhood of Barceloneta – is another one of the city’s longest beaches. However, San Sebastiá is fairly quiet compared to the other beaches, and the average age of visitors tends to be a little higher. Yet, it is also a popular destination for performing water sports such as windsurfing and sailing. This beach also offers services for people with disabilities.

Mar Bella

Partying at Mar Bella and Bogatell

Mar Bella is a small beach that is especially popular among young people. The first part of this beach is the only official nudist area in the city. Also visit the small, nearby park, which is perfect for a picnic or a siesta under the trees. Or go to the basketball court and special skating zone behind the neighbouring Bogatell Beach. In addition, Mar Bella is great for windsurfing, sailing and kayaking; all the necessary equipment is available for rent.
